Biogeography and Diversification of Bumblebees (Hymenoptera: Apidae), with Emphasis on Neotropical Species

چکیده

A detailed phylogeny of bumblebees is urgently needed to understand speciation and biogeographic diversification in the Neotropical region. We sequenced autosomal mtDNA loci from nine Brazilian bumblebee species compiled it with data already available obtain highly resolved phylogenetic trees fossil-calibrated dates. The ancestral Bombus lineage was estimated diversify between 47.08 34.27 million years ago (Ma) Holarctic region, but largely restricted eastern Old World. region initially colonized Late Miocene, where shown be consistent geologic climatic events Cenozoic. likely originated Nearctic lineages, which dispersed towards South America after 29 Ma.

Phylogeny, diversification patterns and historical biogeography of euglossine orchid bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

The orchid bees constitute a clade of prominent insect pollinators distributed throughout the Neotropical region. Males of all species collect fragrances from natural sources, including flowers, decaying vegetation and fungi, and store them in specialized leg pockets to later expose during courtship display. In addition, orchid bees provide pollination services to a diverse array of Neotropical...

Historical biogeography, divergence times, and diversification patterns of bumble bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Bombus).

Bumble bees (Bombus) are a cold-adapted, largely alpine group that can elucidate patterns of Holarctic historical biogeography, particularly in comparison to the alpine plants with which they likely coevolved. A recently published molecular phylogeny of bumble bees provides uniquely comprehensive species sampling for exploring historical patterns of distribution and diversification. Using this ...

Updated list of bumblebees (Hymenoptera: Apidae) from the Spanish Pyrenees with notes on their decline and conservation status.

The Pyrenees, where Euro-Siberian, Mediterranean and alpine faunas join together, have a large biodiversity of bumblebees. We compiled historical literature records of bumblebee species from the Spanish Pyrenees, and then compared these to contemporary surveys to assess trends in elevational distribution. Twenty-eight species (including thirty-five subspecies) were found in the contemporary sur...

Three new cryptic species of Euglossa from Brazil (Hymenoptera, Apidae)

Three new species of orchid bees are described and figured from the Amazon and Atlantic forests of Brazil. Euglossa clausisp. n., Euglossa moratoisp. n., and Euglossa pepeisp. n. are distinguished from their close congeners Euglossa crassipunctata Moure, Euglossa parvula Dressler, and Euglossa sapphirina Moure, previously placed in the subgenus Euglossa (Glossurella) Dressler, 1982, a demonstra...

Mirnapis ohloweni Packer and Dumesh, new species with notes on M. inca Urban (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Eucerini)

The bee genus Mirnapis is revised. Mirnapis ohloweni Packer and Dumesh new species, is described from East of Nazca, Peru and compared to both sexes of the type species, M. inca Urban, based upon material from northern Chile. Thus, the female of the genus is described for the first time. Both sexes of both species are illustrated and variation in some important characteristics noted. The new ma...
